Since 2002, as a sophomore in High school, Jasmine always wanted a career where she could help people and make a difference in their life. In 2011, while working on her degree, Jasmine obtained a job working with individuals with disabilities. Over the course of the years, Jasmine found her passion and her calling to work with individuals with disabilities. Jasmine believes that this field chose her, as this was not her field of choice. Even leaving the state to obtain a career in which she earned her Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice did not workout for her, resulting in her returning to the field she knew. In 2015, Jasmine earned her Certificate Initial Proficiency (CIP) through Providing Advance Treatment in Human Services(PATHS). Since earning her CIP, Jasmine has held several management position. In 2015, Jasmine helped to start an agency in which she held the position of Vice President for 6 years until the closing of that agency in 2021. In 2016, Jasmine became an American Red Cross Instructor for First Aid and CPR certification and has maintained the certification. In her time she has worked with Autistic, severe behaviors, cerebral palsy, dementia, schizophrenia, bipolar individuals. Jasmine took a short break, to rebuild after the passing of her friend and Mentor. In 2022, Jasmine began the process of starting her own agency and to carry on the torch.
Christina was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Since Christina has been a child, she would always be a people’s person. As a child she was talk about getting her own building to turn it into a homeless shelter because she did not like to see people on the streets cold and hungry, or someone in need. To this day that is still one of Christina’s dreams. During her high school years Christina was stuck in between becoming a Nurse or a Forensic Scientist. Christina ultimately chose Forensic Science and attended Youngstown State University on a full ride to college after graduating Salutatorian. While Christina was in college she had to leave and go back home to help the family due to unfortunate circumstances. While at home Christina worked many jobs; She worked in a Pizza shop, Cleaning for her cousins’ company, Cashier at Walmart and doing hair. However, she was never satisfied with any of these jobs. In 2011 Christina gained temporary custody of one of her nieces who happened to have Spinabifida, and Hydrocephalus and the doctors stated that she would never be able to walk or talk, and at this time she did not know what she was getting herself into or even half about how to take care of a child in her nieces’ situation, but she was very determined. While raising her niece she also had two children of her own and at the time didn’t know which way to turn. Her husband mentioned a place called Rose Mary for Children that was straight up the street from where she lived at. Christina did not know what she was getting herself into when she started working there because at first, she thought she was just going to work with little kids that were in foster care and needed help. However, to Christina’s surprise she would be working with children and adults that were just like her niece. Christina then fell in love with the field of working with Children and Adults with Autism and Developmental disabilities. Even after Christina has tried to get out of the field and went to school for nursing and working in recovery; the field keeps calling her. Christina now knows where her passion is and that is working with those who have Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities.
The name Open Arms Caring Foundation from an individual who surpassed the understanding of community and who reinvented the concept of philanthropy. A man so loving and caring who would genuinely and wholeheartedly extend a helping hand to anybody in need. All those who knew Marvin West would say that for those in need he would and without question offer the clothes off his own back and the food from his own plate to ensure others have. Marvin also said that if you put God first in whatever you do then the rest would follow. We are also believers in that same concept. In August of 2021 after the unexpected death of our mentor, friend, and teacher, the start of Open Arms Caring Foundation began to be born, stemming from the thought of Marvin always extending his arms to those in need. He believes in helping others to the best of their ability and did not believe in telling a single person no. A promise was made to Marvin that we would continue to carry on the core values, lessons, and the unconditional love he has shown us to other people so that they can grow into the beautiful butterfly that they are. Open Arms Caring Foundation is built on the philosophy of working as a community by working with others to achieve the final goal.
